About The Speaker

Driss Moussaoui

Driss Moussaoui was professor of Psychiatry and Human Sciences in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Casablanca, Morocco. He founded in 1979 Ibn Rushd University Psychiatric Centre in Casablanca and was the chairman of the Department of Psychiatry until July 2013. This institution is a WHO Collaborating Centre in Mental Health since 1992, the only one among all medical specialties in Morocco so far. Driss Moussaoui is past-president of the Moroccan Society of Psychiatry and of the Arab Federation of Psychiatrists. He was honoured as “Knight of Throne” (Wissam) of the Kingdom of Morocco in 1994 and received the Prize of the President of Tunisia in Medicine in 1987. Driss Moussaoui initiated the World Psychiatric Association (WPA) Jean Delay Prize and is the director of the series “WPA Anthologies of Classical Psychiatric Texts”. He wrote more than 110 papers in international journals and wrote, edited or co-edited 10 books. He was president of the World Association for Social Psychiatry (WASP) from 2010 to 2013; he is also member of the French Academy of Medicine since 2007. Driss Moussaoui is a WPA and a WASP Honorary Fellow. He is an honorary fellow of a number of national societies of Psychiatry throughout the world.
